National Liberation Army

The National Liberation Army (ELN) is a far-left Colombian insurgent guerrilla organization that operates in Colombia.It is defined as having a Marxist-Leninist orientation and pro-Cuban revolution. Since its formation in 1964, it has been an actor in the internal armed conflict in Colombia.

Today, the ELN is made up of more than five thousand members, including militia networks infiltrated in the civilian population. The main commanders of the ELN continue to maintain a political agenda. In 2022, the group joined Colombian President Gustavo Petro's “Total Peace” proposal, resulting in the start of a new round of peace negotiations.
